Joseph Ahearne has a refreshing attitude towards bicycle design. He’s not afraid to try out a new or different layout yet incorporates a healthy amount of respect for tradition. His ‘Light Road’ just that, a tourer that is also capable of fast miles.
Based around a regular racing geometry, it’s been created for comfort and speed in mind. Whether it was intended or not, it’s also one of the most elegant machines we’ve seen for a while — a vanilla frame with subtle pin stripes, polished stainless steel lugs and cable attachments, matching pump and a rack that’s ready for a handle bar bag and head light. It’s functional as well as fashionable: Chris King head set, Campagnolo Chorus components and Paul calipers. The crowning touch is Joseph Ahearne’s signature head badge. An elaborate Celtic knot work design, it’s a fitting emblem for Joseph’s Irish pride.
There’s more builds from the Ahearne stable on the website and flickr, head over there for some Irish inspiration. Like the Ahearne Spaceman Flask and Holster, just the ticket for rambling country jaunts.
