Last Thursday, at Brooks England’s B1866 concept store, Spoon Customs launched the first of their new production frames. The Izoard RR is a road rider inspired by the mountains in which Spoon Customs are based.
Spoon Custom’s Andy Carr is an alumni of The Bicycle Academy and his first handmade frame — elaborately illustrated by London’s Sam Dunn — nearly melted The Spoken’s servers when we featured it back in 2015.
Since then, Andy has transposed himself to the French Alps where he has been developing a production series of frames which will include ‘Finestre’ — an adventure bike — and a Gran Fondo-style frame.
The Izoard RR is named after the Spoon crews’ favorite ride, built using Columbus tubes. Their base can be found 1860m above sea level on top of the Col Du Montgenevre, hours away from the Northern Italian suppliers of their tubes, fabricators and parts.
3T provide their finishing kit; Campagnolo their groupsets. The aesthetic is more hot rod than pro peloton, thanks to its’ geometry and embodied by the classic flip pearl and subtle flake paint, applied by Dan Cole of London’s Cole Coatings Workshop.
The Izoard RR will be on display at B1866 over June along with their test frame, upon which you are welcome to scribble your thoughts and paint suggestions for the upcoming models. Head to the Spoon Customs website for more detailed information.
