‘Tis the season of the bike show right now, with the North American Handmade Bicycle Show at Sacramento in one corner, Frostbite in Minneapolis in another, and the Berliner Fahradschau — part of the Berlin Bicycle Week — coming up in Europe.
The Singlespeed Cyclocross European Championships (SSCXEC) has been supported by Bombtrack Bicycle Co. for the last three years, and the 2016 edition will be part of the opening celebrations of the Berliner Fahradschau.
Bombtrack pulled out all stops on this Arise CX to commemorate.
The Arise holds pride of place in the Bombtrack catalog as their do-it-all ‘cross bike. It can be set up fully-geared or as a single speed, such as they did for this no-holds-barred version, featuring custom paint and a slew of top-shelf components.
The Berlin Bicycle Week runs from the 14th to the 20th of March; a culmination of all that is wonderful about cycling in Germany. Today’s Berlin is a city of diversity, and it’s bike culture is just as multifaceted.
This unique Arise will be exhibited at the entrance to this year’s Berliner Fahrradschau, which is itself just one chapter of the Week. The actual racing will take place on Friday, March 18th 2016, and as tradition dictates, it will be a costumed, debaucherous spectacle.
Bombtrack took a stock Arise frame and gave it a custom paint job in the World Champion colors of the Fahradschau, then built it up with a range of world cup-winning parts that any pro rider would envy.
A Wound Up Composites Gravel X fork leads the charge, topped with a Ritchey ‘Drop In WCS’ headset, topped with a Deda Zero 2 stem and seat post, complemented by a San Marco Aspide Carbon FX Protex saddle.
That crazy drivetrain consists of Rotor 3D cranks and an Osymetric USA 38t chain ring, connected to a Surly freewheel. That chain ring? Don’t knock ’em until you’ve tried ’em. Apparently they let you achieve 7-10% more power.
To eliminate potential chain slack generated by the Asymmetric chain ring, Rolloff’s chain tensioner was utilised. While normally reserved for downhill use, it will come into its own riling up the mud on a CX course.
Other parts include TRP’s Revox Carbon brake calipers, Shimano’s limited edition XTR ’25 years SPD’ pedals and 36c Gravelgrinder tires by Challenge. And you thought single speeds were all about simplicity?
