Fondriest Cu-Status

Fondriest Cu-Status

The X-Status frame was a star in the stable of Fondriest Bici for many years, although it’s doubtful whether Maurizio Fondriest ever considered a copper plated special edition. The Cu-Status, its title referencing copper’s chemical symbol, was orchestrated by Stephan Wijland of The Netherlands.

Stephan has a great passion for Quality Vintage Bikes, with an emphasis on mid-90s Italians, although this project was a little different. He was inspired by La Suprema’s coppered frame, and set about locating a donor. The Fondriest was selected, stripped and dispatched to the coaters.

The Dedacciai Optimal-tubed frame was returned with a shimmeringly perfect layer of copper, which Stephan will enjoy watching as it assumes, over time, the coveted verdigris green. With a Campy Record groupset, it’ll be a sweet ride — provided there’s no electrical storms forecasted.

We’ve previously featured Stephan’s Concorde Squadra, and a rare Colnago MTB, but for the full Quality Vintage Bikes glory, head to the flickr page. The full story of the build can be read here.
