Hampsten Cycles Maglia Rosa

Hampsten Cycles Maglia Rosa

The retirement of professional cyclists can be as fascinating as their racing conquests, although some stories haven’t ended well, despite a glorious CV. Andy Hampsten, on the other hand, is making a special point of riding as gracefully as ever, while Hampsten Cycles continues to impress us with spectacular options for those who aspire to follow in his slipstream.

Last year, when he toured with the Rapha Continental team, the sparkle in his eye revealed his passion for riding and a well-tempered competitive streak, which has materialised today in the new road frame from Hampsten Cycles: the Maglia Rosa. It’s named after the leader’s jersey of the Giro d’Italia, which Andy is, to date, the only American to win, in 1988.

The Maglia Rosa is offered in both a carbon (il Carbonario) and this, the Columbus-tubed Superissimo. The steel frame is built from a mix of Spirit (top, down tubes and seat stays), MAX chainstays and a Life seat tube. The US$2,700 price tag includes a Falz carbon fork and Chris King D-11 headset. Not a bad price for a life-long companion.

Head to the Hampsten Cycles website for more information on the Maglia Rosa series.
