The Horse Brand Co store veritably bursts at the seams with an array of high-quality US-made bikes, apparel and accessories — all selected by Mr. Thomas Callahan. Thomas is the builder of the bikes, knife-maker and designer of a catalogue spearheaded by the True Temper-tubed 2014 Urban Assault.
The Horse workshop has maintained a steady output over the last few years to evolve into a well-stocked store promoting local production, collaboration and industry. All goods encourage outdoor exploration and lifestyle, like the razor sharp carbon steel camping knives and rag wool mittens.
Thomas actively collaborates with other manufacturers and mates, like HMPL, who design and make the natty wool and denim cycling caps, MER Bags in Brooklyn create the dry bags and totes, and ETWAS leather bags produce the sheaths for the camping knives.
The real stars of the show, however, are the Urban Assault and Urban Tour bikes. Both frames are built with TIG-welded 4130 True Temper tubes around an oversized head tube and all-day geometry. The Tour is the more classic of the two, the Assault is more… racy.
A major difference is the custom painted ENVE CX fork — the frame is already designed around responsive angles — and, with clearance for up to 38mm tyres, is just as ready for a ‘cross race as it is for a cross-country expedition.
