Both Caren Hartley and Matt McDonough were both producing extremely boutique and pretty custom bicycles before they decided to join forces under the common banner of Isen Workshop. Their partnership spawned a dark bird, and from these images you can almost sense the beating of its iridescent wings.

This is the second batch of these strangely entrancing bikes to be produced by Isen and, like the first, they’ll only be producing thirty of them. The first lot, however, sold out in a week, and given the quality of the build and the price, this lot won’t be hanging around for long, either.

Isen’s raven-like frame has been designed for all-road and all-season riding, constructed by Caren and Matt at their London workshop in a highly versatile range of sizes from 47cm to 59cm. The larger sizes can take both 650B and 700C wheelsets, and the smaller fits 650c and 26” wheelsets.

Both Matt and Caren contribute to the construction process, building the frames from Reynolds, Columbus and Dedacciai tubing, finished with internal routing for brakes, electronic shifting and dynamos, topped with handcrafted brazed headbadges. A Chris King Inset headset marries the Columbus Futura fork to the frame.

The Futura fork accepts a 12mm thru axle and the rear uses a 9mm quick release. There are eyelets for a rear rack, which means an Isen could very well become your new favourite travelling companion. An initial deposit of £750 will secure your place in the queue, and a very attractive final cost of £1,500 will make you a proud custodian.
