If there’s one indication that Melbourne is Australia’s capital of cycling — and style — it’s the swathe of new brands offering a variety of jerseys, socks and kit to the fashionably-conscious cyclist.

The majority of those labels feature variations on a theme, namely subtle graphics and patterns in teal, blacks and whites, but KRES Cycles is a local label that more strongly appeal to classic sensibilities.

Not a newcomer to the market, KRES has been featured on The Spoken twice before. While their clothing range, created to be “worn on or of the bike”, launched today — along with a new website — they also offer custom frames as the ultimate accessories to their kit.

Their first, a Pista model, astounded us with aero tubing and racing stripes specifically designed for the velodrome. They followed up with a Strada version that featured the same tube set, and to coincide with the release of their clothing line, here’s the most recent, in the same format.

All KRES frames are made by hand in Melbourne from Columbus tubes, and this one was finished with a mix of Thomson and Deda parts. The icing on the cake is the matching handlebar tape by another Melbourne local, Mick Peel of Busyman Bicycles.

The range of KRES apparel has been constructed from all-natural Australian made fabrics that adhere to ethical standards. The cottons are certified organic and the jerseys and base layers are made from the finest merino wool. From the look of the lookbook, their styling is definitely a cut above the rest.
