Landyachtz, well known for its 20-year history in the skateboard world, has rolled into the bike scene. As avid cyclists, the progression into handcrafted bikes was a natural step. They’re building their custom bikes in East Vancouver’s Strathcona neighborhood, right on one of the cities busiest bikeways.

Pascal Weir, sales manager for cycling clothing company Dish & Duer, knew of the frames Landyachtz were making and approached them to build him the ultimate custom commuter that could handle the occasional club ride. Pascal is a Cat 1 cyclist in many disciplines and can be found riding road, XC mountain bikes, and cyclocross.

He wanted a steel bike that mimicked the stiffer feeling his carbon road bike offered for better power transfer but needed it to be comfortable and supple for longer commutes.

For this frame Landyachtz chose a fillet brazed Columbus HSS downtube to get that stiff feeling and paired it with a mix of Life and Zona tubing. His frame was then finished with parts from Paragon Machine Works, including a PF30 BB which increased stiffness.

To finish off the frame and give this bike a truly different look, Landyachtz applied a unique powder coating process which brought out the fillet brazed highlights and natural coloring of the heated Columbus tubing. The frame is then sealed with a clear coat to protect it from the elements. The result is a beautiful, raw finish that is unique to each frame.

The choice of build kit came from Pascal’s mountain bike and cyclocross past. A SRAM 1X system, which is simple and functional, drives this bike. A Race Face Affect SL 24 MTB wheelset stretched the 28c Continental Grand Prix 4000 rubber out to close to 30c for off-road capability that’s still super fast. Pascal then finished the build with a bunch of lightweight components that he selected from Zipp and Ritchey.

Pascal is also one of the first to use Landyachtz’s yet to be released REFORM saddle. The saddle is handcrafted in Vancouver from carbon and a genuine leather. What makes the REFORM saddle unique is it’s custom modulable shell. It’s electronically heated, thermally moldable shell will mold to your sit bones, creating a more comfortable ride. The entire process takes only 20 minutes at your local bike shop. These will be available to the public in March of 2018.
