Ohhhh yeah. This bike hits the spot.

You can also thread both sides of a French bike with an English non-driveside tap, and use the English cups and lockrings from 2 pieced out cheap BB’s. The diameter is the same and pitch is “close enough” that this works. You also get adjustable chainline out of it. It’s pretty ghetto, but excellent for a north american bike nerd beater. I did a Peugeot this way, and this bike reminds me of that bike, just simpler and higher-end. LOVE IT.

Curious what he used to clear coat the gun blued frame. I have finished frames in gun blue and then had them powder coated clear, only to have them rust thoroughly after a few rainy rides. Many clear coats are porous as they are only intended to be used as a top coat. I’ve had better luck with several careful coats of rattle-can clear enamel sold at auto parts stores for painting engine blocks.

I like the overall treatment. Looks nice. The long piece of brake cable hanging out of the rear is kind of annoying. I have a 70′s Mercier that I am tempted to revive however the lack of french threaded parts in my stash is a problem.
