A good multi-tool, over time, becomes like a reliable friend; visiting when the chips are down and, although you might not see them for months, you always know they’re there. London’s Altum Designs has designed a most innovative and ingenious tool and roll.
It’s a smart design: it’s called MODUAL, and consists of MTS, an innovative 13 function multi-tool and MTR, an accompanying tool roll, which can contain CO2 canisters, a spare tube, glue and some patches — all you need for long-distance maintenance.
MODUAL can fit into a jersey pocket if need be, wrapped up in the concise MTR wrap, or attached under the saddle, with no fear of detracting from the overall look of your bike — as long as it’s more of the modern variety.
The MTS tool is 150mm long, providing good leverage, and two tyre levers magnetically attach to the sides of the tool, providing secure and comfortable purchase on the hands when wrestling with stubborn allen bolts.
The MTS tool is constructed from investment cast medium carbon steel, with a bead blasted and zinc-plated finish. The tyre levers are made from 40% glass-filled nylon, while the tool bits are made of hardened CR-V steel.
You can secure an MODUAL system via Altum Design’s Kickstarter page, with shipping beginning in a few months time.
