Luxe Wheelworks Darkstar

Unless you’re an avid follower of pro cycling, you may not have heard of Justin Spinelli. Justin competed primarily on the road but has dabbled in mountain bike racing and cyclocross. He’s been a member of the US National Road Team, Team Farm Frites, Cannondale USA, Team Saeco and recently, Richard Sachs’ cyclocross team. Trained as an industrial designer, he has never strayed far from the world of cycling and now utilizes his skills under the banner of Luxe Wheelworks.

Apart from a highly proficient boutique wheel builder, Justin also assembles complete bikes under the Luxe banner, and this is one of his offerings, the Darkstar. A versatile beast, the Darkstar can be configured as a club racer road weapon or as a cyclocross killer. Tube choice is versatile, too: you can choose between Columbus XCR, Columbus Spirit, titanium or a stock carbon fiber frame. Legendary paint shop Circle A applies the color and finish of your choice. The frame design is Justin’s own and is based on his extensive knowledge of what goes into a perfect ride. Conveniently, the frame perfectly accommodates proper fitment of wide, pave-style tubulars. Being a wheel building maestro, Justin can help you out in that area as well.

It was pure coincidence that I happened across the Darkstar today and, while researching Justin’s background, discovered that today is actually his birthday. Happy birthday Justin.
