Whenever I need reassurance of the art of the bicycle, there’s a couple of frame builders I can rely on to provide the ultimate in bike candy. One of them is Tony Pereira, a Portland, Oregon native whose elegant frames, clad in understated hues, graphic logotype and that golden pear head badge, epitomize the joy of the handbuilt bicycle.

A significant reason for my appreciation of Tony’s bikes and, to be fair, most of the bikes featured on Cycle EXIF is the fine photography. The man who captures the sculptural essence of Tony’s bikes also hails from Portland: photographer Daniel Sharp has had his work exhibited in galleries, magazines and ad campaigns and has extended his relationship with Tony by having him build a cyclocross frame for him. Daniel’s client list includes Burton Snowboards, Nike, Nixon watches, Gravis shoes and has also documented the Rapha Continental journey, which Tony partnered with Ira Ryan to produce an inspired frame for. Daniel’s frame is a perfect example of Tony’s passion for building beautiful bicycles, while the photography reveals Dan’s mastery of the camera.

You can see more of Tony’s bikes on his website and flickr stream, and you can contact Daniel Sharp through his website. His photo journal on the 2009 Giro d’Italia is really something.
