Risi Pista

Risi Pista

The Skull Bike Club is a group of enthusiastic cyclists who hail from Auckland, New Zealand. This is Teva Chonon’s Risi, shot by Mike Davies, who did a great job of capturing that authentic retro paint.

Bruno Risi is a Swiss pro cyclist, who happens to be the ninth Swiss sportsperson to compete in five Olympics (so now you know). An accomplished track cyclist, his resume of ISDT and Madison victories is as long as you like. Bruno has raced for Swiss-based teams such as Berger-Helm Oasen, I.K.O-Corratec (the publicity shots of which are well worth a look for their late-80s neon radiance), Wheeler, ‘Diamont Back’ and recently, Mobel Marki. I’ve been unable to discover who actually built this particular frame for him, but Teva has done an amazing job of building it up appropriately: a Nitto cockpit sits atop a predominantly Suntour-Superbe Pro group set.

Massive thanks to Mike Davies for the photography, and Teva Chonon for the spec sheet.

Are you sure the name “Risi” on this bike corresponds to Bruno Risi? I follow track cycling and do not remember ever seeing him ride a bike with his name on it. He seemed to have a personal sponsorship with Univega for much of his career.

I’m not putting the bike down in any way; I’m just wondering if these are different Risis.

Hi Christopher! I’m putting my ignorance out there by admitting that I’m not 100% sure of that fact. For all of my Googling, I could only find info on Bruno’s signature model with Focus and there are no images of him riding a steel frame. However, there is neither any reference to a builder who goes by the name of Risi either. If anyone can cast any light on the subject it would be much appreciated, and I’ll gladly update the post!
