Montana is known as ‘Big Sky Country’ — a mythical space in the imagination of young boys all around the world. For those that live there, it’s a land filled with adventure and if you’re a mountain biker, it’s an endless trail. Adam Sklar makes bikes designed specifically for riding those trails.

Bozeman is Montana’s fourth largest city, located in the southwest of the state, and is home to Sklar Bikes LLC. Adam builds simple, solid and fun dirt bikes, ranging from single speeds to cyclocrossers, each one different to the last and built to the exact requirements of its owner.

Adam is a trail rider himself and mainly builds fillet brazed and TIG welded steel bikes. “I grew up riding mountain bikes, which has instilled in me a love for adventure and riding on dirt. That has largely shaped my design philosophies and is the inspiration for many of my designs.

“My favorite bikes to design are intended for long adventures in the mountains — be it on trail, road or in between — equipped to handle anything that may get thrown at you, while maintaining a playful, engaging and really, really, really fun ride. I am lucky to attract many riders who share these ideas.

“This bike was designed for a rider who wanted a fun bike to ride on lots of trails around the Bozeman area. He also wanted something unique and really liked the idea of 29+ tires so we decided to go that route. The frame features my signature ovalized and curved top tube. A bent seat tube allows plenty of clearance for a 435mm short chainstay.

“The frame is set up singlespeed, but features Paragon Machine Works dropouts with replaceable inserts — in case he ever decides to go with a 1x set up. All around it is a ripping, versatile trail bike that should make this rider happy for many years to come.”

That seems to be a sound observation. What do you think? See more on the Sklar Bikes website.
