In a welcome reaction to the understated tones and subtle hues that pervade the custom bicycle world, Germany’s VANDEYK Contemporary Cycles inject a searing splash of color with their latest collection: the limited edition Purple Blast.
Arendt van Deyk heads a team of frame builders, photographers, artists and designers who previously brought us the Nightstream collection — a mountain bike and a road frame painted with neon lines over a gloss black base. Purple Blast is equally as striking, there’s not a trace of black in this scheme.
The frame is constructed by hand from Columbus XCr stainless steel with an ENVE fork up front and equipped with Shimano’s Di2 group. The paint is just as much a feature, inspired by a solar flare. The collection is limited to 25 pieces and is available complete or as a frame and fork set.
VANDEYK partnered with London-based art and design practice United Visual Artists to produce a short film and fashion shoot that places Purple Blast in an early ‘op art’ setting, emphasizing the bike’s artistic and flamboyant nature. Head to the VANDEYK website to view the film and pricing.
