Winter Bicycles PEI Tourer

Winter Bicycles Tourer

Canada has a vast tradition of outdoor sports and activities, especially mountain biking, producing legendary names such as Rocky Mountain, Norco and Brodie Bikes. Prince Edward Island is Canada’s smallest province and Eric Estlund of Oregon’s Winter Bicycles has paid homage to that area’s “maritime self reliance and spirit of adventure” with this exemplary tourer.

The PEI is built around the traditional geometry of a randonneuring bike, with relaxed angles to ease the extended hours in the saddle required by bicycle touring. Both touring and a randonnée requires that the rider be completely self-sufficient so portage is a must, and Eric has collaborated with Ely of San Fran’s Ruth Works on a set of bags designed for this bike, supported by Eric’s custom racks.

The frame is lugged and fillet brazed at the bottom bracket shell with an emphasis on light weight. A custom pair of forks were fabricated from Imperial Oval tubes with a gentle rake, grasping the 650b Pacenti wheels. Ultra-reliable dynamo lighting has been installed, along with Paul Components, White Industries, Cane Creek, Shimano Dura Ace components and a brushed custom stem.

Special thanks to Anthony Bareno for the photography. See more on the Winter Bicycles website.
