The Ahearne Contessina touring bicycle

Contessina touring bicycle by Ahearne Cycles

The long-awaited Tour de France just embarked and if you’ve ever fantasized about a leisurely Grande Boucle of your own, you could do a lot worse than find yourself on one of Joseph Ahearne’s elaborate tourers.

Every artist develops an individual style with each work they create, and custom frame builders are no exception. An Ahearne is characterized by a decorative seat and chain stays, and occasionally with a twin top tube such as this one.

Equipped with an ultra-reliable SON hub, Edelux LED lamp, portage set in a contrasting blue with leather trim and a Gilles Berthoud saddle, the intricate frame is well matched to traveling through the Continental countryside.

It’s been exceptionally captured by Tarantola, an Italian graphic designer, and there are plenty more detail shots on his website, ORME.
