Velo City: Bicycle Culture and City Life

Cyclocross is a form of off-road bike racing, and the bikes are superficially similar to road bikes.

The frames are typically made of lightweight materials such as aluminum or carbon fiber, and designed to withstand the rigors of off-road riding. Cyclocross bikes also feature wider tires than road bikes, with a knobby tread that provides better traction on loose dirt, mud, and other challenging terrain.

Cyclocross bikes often use cantilever or disc brakes, for strong stopping power even in wet and muddy conditions. They typically also have a higher bottom bracket height than road bikes, which provides more clearance over obstacles like rocks, roots, and logs. A more upright riding position helps riders maintain control and balance when navigating tight turns and technical terrain.

Versatile, fast, and maneuverable, these machines are an ideal choice for riders who enjoy the challenge of off-road racing and the thrill of pushing themselves to their limits.
