With the 2019 Le Tour de France currently being played out, it’s time to look at a tall skinny bike. Like the race, this one has a true international flavor: Named after a thick sushi roll, this is a Futomaki by Cicli Bonanno — an Italian builder based in Berlin.

It’s a bit of a funny name, but appropriate. The Futomaki is Cicli Bonanno’s chubby-tired road bike and this one was built up by Light-Wolf Studio, a bicycle boutique based in Dresden, about 200km south of Berlin.

Light-Wolf specialise in wheel building, bike fitting, and high-end bikes for discerning customers. Needless to say, they’ve built up a few frames by Cicli Bonanno’s Niccolò Bonanno, like this one for Fabian.

Nico TIG welds his frames, and is passionate about the process, as it demands 100% focus and precision. Naturally, he counts Dario Pegoretti as an inspiration and, like Dario’s, Nico’s frames are near works of art — or great examples of design, anyway.

Underneath the gorgeous paint is a superbly-crafted frame, but the paint — expertly laid down by Berlin’s Velociao — and each variation of the Bonanno logotype, transform it into a shimmering thing of beauty.
