#cyclewoodwards — Cycling And Frame Builders Show

Vancouver's #cyclewoodwards — Cycling And Frame Builders Show

The first inaugural Vancouver Framebuilder’s Show was a resounding success and the 2016 edition — this Saturday (June 25th) — looks like it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. This year it will be held at the iconic Woodward’s Building at the Downtown Eastside and will be a huge celebration of the local cycling community.

Vancouver has always had a strong frame building fraternity, one with a strong heritage — especially in the mountain bike scene. One of MTB’s earliest influencers, Paul Brodie, will be there to promote his new book and show off the replica 1888 Whippet that he reproduced from scratch.

There’ll also be displays of work by younger names in the scene, like Skyland Cycles’ Matthew Braun who also happens to be the instigator of the show. It’ll be a great chance for enthusiasts to commune, but there’s plenty of entertainment for all kinds of cyclists.

From the press release: The day-long event, in the Woodward’s Atrium at 351 Abbott Street, is being hosted by Westbank, in partnership with Skyland Cycles and ReMax, and will feature more than 25 vendors, including the City of Vancouver’s new bike share program and the anti-theft program, Project 529.

To kick things off (at 8am, prior to the event), keeners can join local cycling clubs for one of four different group rides: Beginner, Novice, Advanced and Women Only – with coffee and snacks provided at the end of the rides.

From 10am to 5pm, guests are welcome to participate in other event highlights including:
• Registering your bike with the Bike Valet and Project 529, an anti-theft bike program
• Checking out more than a dozen custom handmade bikes from Vancouver’s community of frame builders
• Taking part in interactive and educational demonstrations from a wide range of exhibitors
• Finding out more about Mobi, the City of Vancouver’s new bike share program
• Participating in the Bicycle Show N’ Shine to show off your choppers, freak bikes, classic rides, and custom bikes

Prizes and giveaways throughout the event will include:
• Learn to Ride classes from Burnaby Velodrome
• Gift cards from Bike Room for mechanics courses for professionals or hobbyists looking to learn about bicycle maintenance
• Gear from Shimano

About Woodward’s
The redevelopment of the former site of Woodward’s created approximately one million square feet of market and non-market residential, office, community and retail space, including Simon Fraser University (SFU), Goldcorp Centre for the Arts, London Drugs, Nesters Market, JJ Bean and the Woodward’s Food Floor. The redevelopment of the Woodward’s site has revitalized the streetscape of the immediate area and is serving as a catalyst for the economic, social and physical revival of the Downtown Eastside. Covering almost an entire city block, this site, once a major department store, serves as the city’s historic and social heart.

About Skyland Cycles
Mathew Braun is a custom frame builder who works under the name Skyland Cycles. His focus is on building people’s dreams – from fit to finish 100% custom bespoke bicycles.
