Velo City: Bicycle Culture and City Life

Fit Bike Co Lurch

Fit Bike Co Lurch

After all the studio shots and images soaked with atmospheric depth of field, there’s nothing I enjoy seeing more than a bike that has been wrestled into the ground, beaten and dropped, and which has obviously been worked for which it was intended. This is Fit Bike Co’s pro rider Van Homan’s Lurch frame, and it’s a real testament to the abuse that these bikes can take.

Van Homan is a pro rider for Fit, but he also heads up Two By Four, a BMX shop and online store whose bricks and mortar location is Pennsvile, New Jersey. Van Homan runs a 30/10 micro drive train, so he runs a half link to cater for the non-standard chain length. It’s quite a juxtaposition to view such a hard working bike against a studio backdrop, it only enhances the image of the triumphant bicycle over the urban landscape.
