Back in 2010, we featured a 29er by a young builder named Alex Cook who exhibited on the New Builders Table at the NAHBS that year. It was one of the year’s most popular bikes on The Spoken and since then we’ve enjoyed a few more by the Minneapolis native.

Back then he was working under the banner of A-Train Cycles. More recently, Alex has been building frames as Northern Frameworks, as the exclusive in-house bespoke bike brand for Minneapolis’ Angry Catfish bike bar and café.

For the past year and a half, Alex has made a myriad of frames that range in style from townies like this one to cyclocross and road racers to fast MTBs, although the bike featured today was actually the first branded Northern to emerge from the workshop.

The frame is TIG welded with internal cable routing, matching rack and fenders and is built up with a White Industries and Alfine drivetrain, hub lighting and Sycip‘s JJJ bars, made by Nitto. Here’s looking forward to seeing what Alex comes up with next.
