Pelizzoli Merena

Pelizzoli Merena

This is not the first Pelizzoli seen on the pages of The Spoken, but it is the first that’s constructed from carbon-fiber. Giovanni Pelizzoli is a legend of the Italian bicycle racing tradition, a frame builder who specialized in true custom steel frames that now offers the same service in composites.

The Merena is the first carbon frame in the Pelizzoli range, a lineup dominated by steel strada and pista frames. This one is owned by Michele Paganoni, a good friend of Alessandro Caccia — a valuable member of the Pelizzoli World team whose Columbus XCR Aeta frame we featured earlier.

Like most of us, Michele loves bicycles, both to ride and as beautiful objects to have around. He wanted a carbon road bike that was as individual as himself so consigned the skills of Giovanni and his staff, but did not stop at the custom frame, designing the graphics himself.

The Merena combines WR Compositi tubes and components with a Mavic wheelset, the ensemble complemented by a Dura-Ace groupset. He did a great job not only of photographing his dream ride, but also giving us an insight into the Pelizzoli workshop, a Mecca for any custom bicycle connoisseur.
