If you need reminding there’s positive action happening somewhere in this crazy world, look no further than World Bicycle Relief. They’ll be able to sustain the good work thanks to a collaboration between Fausto Pinarello and renowned architect Hani Rashid.
Hani Rashid is the co-founder, with his wife Lise Anne Couture, of Asymptote Architecture, a practice based in Long Island City, New York. Established in 1989, they have developed a hyper-futuristic ethos that fuses human movement with technology.
Their projects give the impression that they’ve been designed by a computer in response to the landscape in which they are placed and, in most cases, that actually is the case. It also helps to put this collaboration between Rashid and Pinarello in context.
Rashid is good friends with Fausto Pinarello and has been a long-time admirer of the brand. With good reason — Pinarello’s history dates back to 1952 and is one of the columns of the Italian racing bike manufacturing industry.
The Dogma F12 is the latest in a long line of exemplary road racing models produced by Pinarello. Despite a reputation as the ultimate dentist’s ride, it’s asymmetric design is a very smart piece of, well, bicycle architecture.
Pinarello supplied two Dogma F12s to Rashid, who designed a graphic scheme which is both angular and organic that wraps around the frame, accentuating its muscular, sinewy and high-tech engineering.
The Pinarello paint department was pulled into the action, applying an extremely iridescent paint to Rashid’s shapes. The colors are inspired by the changing seasons and light over the Italian Dolomites.
One scheme represents Summer and Autumn, when the shadows are deep and the afternoon is golden. The other symbolises Winter and Spring — with its traces of snow along the peaks and falling trails of azure water.
Both bikes are being auctioned on eBay with proceeds going straight to World Bicycle Relief. The auction finishes on Tuesday, October 6th at 6.00 am, AEST. If you fancy an architect-designed, very individual and collectable Dogma F12, you’ve got five days left.
