Velo City: Bicycle Culture and City Life

SUNN is a French bicycle maker that was founded in 1982 by two former motocross riders, Max Commençal and Francois Gachet.

SUNN focused on making high-end mountain bikes for the emerging mountain biking scene in France and Europe. Its bikes were ridden by some of the top mountain bikers of the time, such as Nico Vouilloz, Anne-Caroline Chausson, and Cédric Gracia.

In the 1990s, SUNN expanded its product line to include road bikes, hybrids, and kids’ bikes. In 1996, SUNN was acquired by the Italian bike manufacturer Bianchi, itself later acquired by the Cycleurope Group. In 2005, Cycleurope decided to discontinue the SUNN brand.

In 2010, SUNN was resurrected as an independent brand by Max Commençal, who had left the company in 1995. Today, SUNN produces high-end mountain bikes and has expanded its product line to include e-bikes and gravel bikes.
